I was born in 1980 in Albany, NY, and graduated from the College of William & Mary with a B.A. in Art and Art History in 2002. After spending several years in the DC non-profit world, I became a freelance photographer in 2006.
Since then, I have regularly covered Capitol Hill and the White House for a variety of clients, and undertaken projects in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, Peru, Mexico, and here in the U.S. My photographs have appeared in Time, Newsweek, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the Economist, USA Today, der Spiegel, the Financial Times, the International Herald Tribune, and a number of other outlets. I've also written as a freelancer for the Christian Science Monitor.
Recent awards include being selected as a student at the 2009 Eddie Adams Workshop, selection as a finalist in 2008 for the first grant under the David Alan Harvey Fund for Emerging Photographers, a purchase grant as part of the inaugural 2006 John A. Wilson Building City Hall Art Collection here in Washington and a 2006 grant from the Yellow Fox Foundation, which allowed me to study documentary photography at the International Center of Photography in New York City.
I am a member of the White House News Photographers Association (WHNPA).
